Forest

Forest is a large, somewhat industrialized section of Lynchburg which contains some excellent communities and new-construction homes. The Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains to the west offer some spectacular views. Add in Smith Mountain Lake to the south and outdoor recreation opportunities are abundant. The city's namesake, Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest plantation is now a museum and major historic site.

Nearby are several districts on the National Register of Historic Districts, five colleges and universities, a few good art museums and modest entertainment. Historic sites and museums include Appomattox and the national WWII memorial. Within an hour's drive are Roanoke and Charlottesville.
